Maya Shanbhag Lang is the author of What We Carry, named a New York Times Editors’ Choice and included on several Best of 2020 lists, from Amazon to The Times of India. She is also the author of The Sixteenth of June, long-listed for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and named a must-read novel by CBS and InStyle. Her essays have been published widely, most recently in New York Magazine, The Washington Post, and Goop. Winner of the Neil Shepard Prize in Fiction, she has received support from the Rona Jaffe Foundation, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and others. Lang has spent over a decade editing fiction and memoir and teaching creative writing. Whether working with debut or established authors, her goal is to find the heartbeat of a story—its pulse—and to help that come through. She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature and is the daughter of South Asian immigrants
